Selby Contract Flooring

"I went with Selby Flooring for a full floor install at my cafe, including subfloor prep and Marmoleum throughout. On the positive side, Ian himself was good to deal with at first and did come down in person once I raised concerns, which I appreciated. The team were also willing to come back and address issues without any pushback, and they agreed to replace an dangerous stair nosings (still waiting to hear back though). That said, the overall experience was not what I expected given the cost. When the job was first signed off as complete, there were a number of obvious issues that shouldn’t have been left. The seams hadn’t been welded at all, one small but obvious section of the floor had been missed entirely, there were areas already peeling and bubbling, and the finish around edges and details was quite rough. The doormat was fitted without any trim or skirting, which left it rough and unfinished looking. The stairs were also left incomplete with no tops or nosings fitted despite this being agreed upon at first. I ended up having to go around and point all of this out myself, which shouldn’t really be the case when you’re paying over £6000. The work did eventually get brought up to a better standard, but it took multiple return visits over a couple of weeks to get there. Even now, the seam welding, while completed, isn’t particularly clean or consistent and doesn’t quite match the level of finish I was expecting. There were also some smaller but frustrating issues along the way, including damage to a toilet flusher during one of the follow-up visits and the site being left messy afterwards. This is paid for by deduction from my final bill, but really made things difficult for our customers and staff the following days. A more serious concern is the stair nosings themselves once they were finally installed. The ones fitted currently protrude in a way that creates a clear trip hazard. I’ve raised this and sent photos, but after a couple of weeks there’s been no resolution or follow up beyond the initial response. Given the nature of their work, this is something I would expect to be properly considered and addressed without needing to chase. I chose Selby because they could complete the job in two days, which helped minimise closure of the cafe, and they did deliver on that. But in hindsight, that speed seems to have come at the expense of attention to detail, and it ended up taking more time overall to get everything sorted, at a much higher cost than all over flooring companies I spoke with. Overall, they did get there in the end and were responsive when issues were raised, but I was disappointed with the standard at initial handover, the safety oversight with the nosings, and the amount I had to step in to get things corrected."
